Better USA photos
Deep understanding of photography
How vision and reality work
Holism and quantum physics

My name is Jörg Sczepek. On this page you will find books that have resulted from my many years of working with photography, perception and natural science – supplemented by handmade topographic maps and other materials.

For many years I have been intensively engaged with photography, visual perception, and the questions of how we actually see and understand the world. This work has resulted in several books, which I present here. The topics range from practical advice for photographers in the American Southwest to the scientific foundations of good images and deeper reflections on the nature of reality.

My books

Book series A Photographers Companion to Arizona, California, Utah

Cover Photographers Companion the Southern Utah

Three practical travel guides designed to help you take better and more thoughtful photos at selected locations in the Southwestern United States. They complement classic travel guides with tips on photographic subjects, light, composition, and topography—all things I've personally tested and refined through numerous trips. More

Book series Nature Science+Photography

Cover Nature Science+Photography Volume 1 Visuality

In this five-volume series, I attempt to explain the psychological and scientific foundations of photography. It explores why some images are effective while others are not – and what truly lies behind successful photography. More

In the Breath of the Whole

Cover In the Breath of the Whole

This book critically examines the extent to which quantum physics confirms or refutes age-old notions of universal interconnectedness. It shows where analogies hold true and where they fail – and invites readers to rethink concepts such as self, world, matter, and mind. More

All of my books are the result of my self-taught exploration of these topics. I acquired the knowledge step by step through intensive reading, my own experiments with the camera, and long periods of reflection. It's important to me that the texts not only impart knowledge but also convey something of the curiosity and joy of discovery that drive me.

If any of the topics appeal to you – whether practical photography on a US holiday, the basics of successful pictures or the big questions about perception and reality – you are cordially invited to take a look inside the books.
